Methodology of facial gymnastics
In 1990 Camille Volair, a French consultant in the field of cosmetics and beauty treatments, collaborated with a well-known sports scientist to establish the first facial gymnastics programme. Their book "Self-Lifting" became an international bestseller and sparked media attention. Thousands of letters thanking Volair confirmed her programme‘s success. Volair herself was an excellent advertisement for her programme as her face appeared as youthful as it did in a photo taken 30 years previously. Volairs’s students spread the techniques involved in facial gymnastics across Western Europe and finally to Slovakia.
Current system of facial gymnastics
The original system has been modified and amended, following further consultation with experts, and currently consists of approximately 23 basic and several additional special facial exercises designed to strengthen especially problematic areas of the face. This system is popular also as "facial yoga". The programme is divided into three parts:
1. During the first phase clients are guided by a specialist
trainer who assigns exercises designed to build muscles.
They consist of stretching and releasing specific muscle
groups in 5 to 7 second intervals.
2. During the second phase clients continue the facial
exercises at home. They consist of rapid stretching and
releasing of muscles. Clients should spend a maximum of
15 minutes exercising daily.
3. The final stage of the programme consists of maintenance
exercises, 2 or 3 times per week for about 15 minutes.
